Passersby reported a noticeable fog around 21:50 on the marketplace. Upon closer inspection, they found that a hydrant stand had burst. The hydrant was set up for the supply of the Christmas market. Uncontrollably, water was flowing out from the hydrant. Due to the strong frost, the water outflow caused a mirror-like road surface in the area of the marketplace and parts of Lindenstraße.
The passersby alerted firefighters who were at the equipment house after their weekly drill. Two firefighters braved the water fountain and quickly turned off the water supply with a hydrant key.
Parallel, the fire department secured the mirror-like hazardous area. Afterwards, the municipal maintenance yard spread the area extensively.
The police and city utilities supported during the operation.
