Passersby reported a noticeable steam on the Market Square around 21:50. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that a hydrant had burst due to a broken stock. The hydrant was set up for the Christmas market. Uncontrollably, water was spraying out from the hydrant. Due to the strong frost, the water spray resulted in a mirror-like road surface on the Market Square and parts of Lindenstraße.
The passersby alerted firefighters at the fire station who were still present after their weekly drill. Two firefighters braved the geyser and quickly shut off the water supply with a hydrant key.
Parallel, the fire department secured the slippery hazardous area. Following that, the municipal works department spread the area extensively.
The police and city utilities supported the operation.
